I love pot racks. Even though it increases the necessity to really scrub your pots and pans, especially the bottoms, it is a great use of space for storage. But pot racks can be very, very expensive for their size and construction. I will tell you a secret. It's not necessary to spend that much money because there are so many ways you can make one yourself. All you need is a way to hang the rack from the ceiling, usually chains attached to swag lamp or plant hanger hooks that screw and anchor into the ceiling or attach it to the wall. You can be creative in what you use and how you use it. Here are just a few ideas that you can use, but there are hundreds more.

1. Iron grate or gate. You remember old iron garden gates? Paint one with shiny black enamel and hang from the ceiling with chains. Attach S hooks and you have yourself a pot rack!

2. Ladder. An old wooden ladder makes a wonderful rack. Again hang it with chains and attach S hooks. You can stain it or leave natural for a more rustic look.

3. Basketball hoop. Yes, you can even use an old basketball hoop. Spray paint it black and mount it to your wall. Use S hooks to hang pots.

4. Old window frame. Hang it by chains after staining or painting it to blend with your kitchen. Add the ever-present S hooks.

5. Cake cooler rack. This is a great idea for a smaller kitchen. Hang it by chains and add S hooks for a rack that will take up a smaller space.

6. Towel rack or curtain rod. Just attach to the wall where you have room to hang the pots. Use S hooks to attach the pots.

7. Old metal coffee table frame. If you have an old coffee table with a top that is damaged or broken, why not use it for a pot rack. Hang it by chains and attach S hooks.

Do these ideas spark your own? If they do, tell us about them in our forum. We would love to hear them!
