When staging a home, this step can cost a bit of cash, but it is what makes a home “move-in ready” and can go a long ways toward helping you sell or rent your home.
Don’t stress or go overboard here. Many homeowners get carried away and begin major remodeling projects. This is usually not necessary. A realtor can advise you in this area. If you are selling or renting your home yourself, ask a friend (or three) for their honest advice on what to do, and leave the rest alone.

Tips for Repairing
- To save money, fix any small cosmetic work yourself. You really don’t need a pro to repair grouting, replace a cracked windowpane, or even retile a bath. It may mean postponing the listing of your property for a month or so, but it may be well worth it to you in the amount you save on labor costs.
- Remove what you want to take with you. If something is attached to your home, prospective buyers or renters may assume that it is included in the price. If you don’t want to leave behind those blinds or that pricey wine cooler, remove them or replace them before listing your property.
- Don’t forget about the exterior of your home. A sagging gutter and peeling front door will not make a good first impression. If a home appears poorly maintained, it will cause homebuyers to wonder what unforeseen problems could be lurking behind those walls.
