During this year's yard sale season, I have seen as many as five garden gates for sale. I fail to understand why people don't immediately latch onto these and buy all that are available. They are so versatile and can be used a number of ways to add character to your home. Just a few examples are:
- Art. If the gate is wrought iron or wood, display it on the wall as a piece of art. It will be sculptural and makes a vintage statement in whatever style your room.
- Pot rack. Using a metal gate as a pot rack hung from the ceiling with chains is a wonderful way to add character and charm to your kitchen. Use big "S" hooks to hang the pots from the gate.
- Headboard. One gate or two hung side by side make a great headboard. Paint them with an accent color or go all black or white and attach to the wall. They are an inexpensive way to add style.
- Bench back. Attaching a gate to the back of a plain wood bench turns the bench into a piece with style. Add a few bright pillows and you have a fabulous piece for your foyer.
If you can't find garden gates at yard sales in your area, try taking out an ad asking for them. Word the ad to say "paying "the amount you want to pay" for used metal, wrought iron or wood gates." Who knows, you might find a few treasures in the bunch that will become your favorite home decor items. Good luck!
P.S. You can always use one as a gate to your special garden!
