If a reader had $500 to decorate a room in his/her home, which one would you advise them to decorate?
I think the first place a decorator should attack is the main living space. Whether that be the kitchen, the family room or a combo of both, decorating the room you spend the most time in will allow you to appreciate the effort you put in much more often! In turn, your house will seem more a home, you will enjoy friends and families compliments on your home, and will be inspired to tackle your next decorating project when your budget allows.
What do you think is biggest mistake DIY decorators make?
Not having a plan is the biggest mistake ANY decorator can make, whether you DIY or not. A plan keeps you on track and keeps all your rooms purchases and projects pulled together and on target. Without a plan, one is much more likely to purchase impulsive items that may not achieve what you were trying for. That's just wasted cash.
What is your favorite low-cost decorating project?
My brown bag floors. I have great instructions and pics at http://www.thebudgetdecorator.com/faux_leather_floor.html. It's the most talked about project on my message board!
In today's depressed market, would you advise homeowners to spend money redecorating their home?
Absolutely. The one haven we still have is our homes. You don't have to spend a lot to make warm and personal changes to any room. Its not just a house, its your home, after all!
