Although I have watched Sabrina Soto's hosting skills on television and have appreciated her tips as Target's Style Expert for the Home, I have never really noticed her skills as an interior designer. Instead, I have simply thought of her as a celebrity - someone who looks good and "works well with others..." and who also may know a bit about design and decorating.
But Sabrina's book, Home Design, has earned my appreciation for her as a designer also.
Though I doubt Sabrina wrote every word, I do see her calm personality flowing throughout the text. And the design tips and advice are solid. Though I haven't found anything new and exciting within these pages, Sabrina does share a wealth of foundational design and decorating knowledge that you'll need if you want to pick out carpet (triexta vs polypropylene) or countertops (slate vs soapstone).
I found a good mix of budget-friendly and high-end design tips within the book. However, I found the photography extremely lacking. (Odd and sad for a design/decorating book.) Most of the photos are of high-end spaces that appeared unapproachable and unlivable. In fact, the photographs of the rooms reeked highly of stock photography, which made me wonder if Sabrina actually designed any of the rooms herself.
If you are a big fan of Sabrina Soto or are looking for a book with solid decorating advice, then this may be the book for you. If you are looking for more seasonal ideas and inspiration, an easier way to incorporate Sabrina's style into your home may be to get it via Target.
Target has always been great to partner with top designers, which could be why Target's budget-friendly homegoods section remains hip and ever changing. Target has just released a summer entertaining inspiration board from Sabrina to help spark ideas for affordable outdoor events and room makeovers.
I love the colors in the idea board, and I especially loved that I could pick up anything I needed to complete this look at my local Target. (How easy is that?) So basically, you can host a garden party "designed" by Sabrina Soto for just a few dollars and 20 minutes at Target.
