Green Walls On a Budget

Tuesday September 2, 2008

There is no excuse now for not going green. When you decide to remodel or redecorate a room, there are a plethora of new options that are both earth- and budget-friendly. Wall coverings have undergone a transformation from the flocked metallic disco paper of the 70s. Now they are made from sustainable materials and give both dimension and style to your walls.

If you have decided to go green on your walls, explore some of these possibilities:

  • Inhabit is introducing embossed self-adhesive wall flats out of sustainable bamboo pulp. They come in several styles and can be primed and painted.
  • Pallas Textiles’ DialTones is made from Japanese phone books and pulp. 50-70% is recycled phone books.
  • Vitrulan creates a fabric made of glass. That’s right, glass! It comes pre-pasted and pre-primed. Just soak to activate the adhesive.

If you decide that painting the walls is a better alternative for you, I give some good advice at Choosing Earth Friendly Paint Options .

Reuse, repurpose, and recycle. You hear it so much that you may no longer pay attention. But this green living slogan is not only important for the environment, it can be the key to budget decorating.
