Shedding Some Light on Your Decor

Tuesday August 19, 2008

I admit it! I am the type of person that wants every light in the house on. Because of this electricity-sucking need for light and the contradictory desire to save energy, I have switched to CFLs (compact fluorescent lights). I hate CFLS. They make me look green, and not a flattering shade of green. Think pea soup with clabbered milk. Yetch! But rattling around in my inbox today was an article about a new CFL with a high CRI.

And what is a high CRI? That means color-rendering index - an indication of how true colors look under the light. These new bulbs are rated in the 80s! By comparison, sunlight is rated 100 and normal CFLS range from 60-70. While these new CFLs don't match incandescent light bulbs' CRI index of 90, they are a vast improvement over the old CFLs. So I can have my light - all four types - and energy savings too!
